Created for my Audio Visual Space Course
Visuals and Music created by me.
The O.M.B. 3000 (One Man Band) is a piece of machinery that creates a track of music using its several different sound modules. Each sound is uniquely created and all sounds have a purpose in contributing to the final composition. Based on modular synthesisers, The O.M.B. 3000 consists of multiple different visual elements that match individual sounds throughout the musical composition. The name of the machine stems from the performers that wield multiple instruments at a single time and play a piece completely by themselves using different mechanics to create the sounds.
As the video begins, the lights turn on and the machine starts loading. A few of the instruments are tested out before the machine starts performing. Gradually throughout the piece, different elements slowly come in one-by-one until they reach a crescendo where each segment of the O.M.B. 3000 is working at their maximum rate. Prior to this finale, the lights turn off which reveals the glowing LEDs and screens of each module of the instrument. This was inspired by live DJ performances where the lights take centre-stage and help visualise the music. Additionally, I tried to create bite-sized physical instruments for each part of the piece, I wanted the sounds to be created with a particular movement and not just have the whole sound track be entirely digitally produced.
